Call for papers

Submission Guidelines: Please submit abstracts of no more than 300 words to umut.turk@agu.edu.tr (also umut.turk@gmail.com) on or before April 30, 2024. Each abstract should contain the author name(s) and affiliation, along with a maximum of five keywords.

Following the conference, authors are encouraged to further submit their full papers to the Special Issue ‘Rethinking SDGs Opportunities and Challenges in the Middle East’ until July 30, 2024, utilizing RSPP submission platforms (additional details will be provided during the conference). Early submissions are recommended and will be promptly processed. All submitted papers will undergo the standard peer-review process. Once accepted, papers will be published on a rolling basis and subsequently compiled in a special issue as soon as a sufficient number of papers are available.

The conference themes encompass a broad range of topics, including, but not limited to:

  • Theoretical and conceptual approaches to understanding SDGs in the Middle East
  • Economic integration in the Middle East
  • Socio-spatial justice and regional development
  • Accessibility measures (including food and amenities) in the Middle East
  • War, peace, and sustainability in the Middle East
  • Gender equality and empowerment for sustainable peace in the Middle East
  • Refugee and migrant mobility
  • Social justice and peace in the Middle East
  • Integrating food systems and regional development
  • Climate change and regional development planning
  • SDGs and regional development
  • Data generation, management, and regional development
  • Regional analysis tools, methods, and models
  • Regional migration challenges and opportunities

Travel and Accommodation: All participants are expected to make their own travel and accommodation arrangements. Campus accommodation (bed only) will be available at a fee. Hotels and lodges available within a 5 km radius of the conference venue cost on average USD45-60 for bed and breakfast.

Lunch and teas will be provided. Participants will have to make their own arrangements for breakfast and supper.
